Accessibility at LVC Softball

Lake Valhalla Club Softball — scores, stats, schedule and replays.

We want every member and every fan to be able to follow the league — the live score, the standings, your kid's box score, last night's replay — however you use a phone or a computer. Accessibility isn't something we bolt on at the end; it's part of how we build the site and the app. Here's exactly where we stand, including the parts we haven't solved yet.

The website

Screen readers

Pages are built with real headings, landmarks, lists and tables, and every button, link and form field has a label — so VoiceOver and NVDA can read a page in a sensible order and jump around it. When you change pages or something updates in the background (a broadcast going live, an RSVP saving) we announce it politely in one short sentence, instead of letting a live score interrupt you every few seconds.

Keyboard

The whole site works from the keyboard alone — Tab and Shift+Tab to move, Enter or Space to activate, Escape to close. Nothing is mouse-only, and nothing traps your focus.

Visible focus

Whatever you're on is outlined clearly, so you never lose your place when tabbing. We don't strip focus rings to make things look tidier.

Bigger text

Text scales up to 200% — browser zoom, pinch-zoom, or your device's larger text setting — and the layout reflows instead of clipping or overlapping.

Light and dark

The site follows your device's light/dark setting automatically, and there's a manual toggle in the header if you want to override it.

Contrast

We target WCAG AA contrast for text and interface elements, in both the light and the dark theme.

Reduced motion

If you've turned on "Reduce Motion" in your system settings, we honor it — transitions and animated effects are cut back or turned off.

Never color alone

Nothing important is signalled only by color. Wins and losses, live games, record completeness and status badges always carry text or a shape too — not just a green or a red.

The app — Unique Replay

Our iPhone and Apple Watch app leans on the accessibility features built into iOS and watchOS, so your existing settings just work:

VoiceOver — screens are labelled for spoken navigation, including the game situation (inning, count, outs, runners, score) read out loud rather than left as a picture.
Voice Control — controls are named so you can drive the app by voice.
Dynamic Type — text follows your Larger Text setting instead of a fixed size.
Dark interface — the app follows your system appearance.
Differentiate Without Color — with that setting on, team and status cues get shapes and labels, not just colors.
Contrast — text and controls are drawn to meet sufficient contrast in both appearances.
Reduce Motion — honored; animated transitions are simplified.

Where we fall short

Two honest limits, so nobody is surprised:

Captions on game video are automatic, not human-written. Full games and replays are streamed and hosted on YouTube, so the captions you get are YouTube's automatic ones. They're useful, but they get names, calls and crowd noise wrong, and they aren't reviewed by us.
There are no audio-described versions of our video. If you can't see the video, the picture isn't described for you. Box scores, recaps and play-by-play text are the accessible version of a game today.
